(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)Well, Skye/Coulson's my kink, Steve/Coulson isn't so...
Hey, that's fine! I don't ship either pairing myself, but I don't have a problem with other people doing so. I was just pointing out why some people might legitimately be uncomfortable with the age difference between Skye and Coulson, but be okay with Steve and Coulson.
(And if Coulson turns out to be her dad in canon, I can always put it right in fanfic).
Not sure if this comment is in response to me labeling Coulson "arguably [Skye's] father figure" or a more general comment based on other comments above. If it's the former, then you're misreading me slightly. I wasn't suggesting that Coulson is actually Skye's father; canon could always prove me wrong, of course, but I personally think it's unlikely that the show will go there. I do, however, think that Skye arguably sees him as "a person...of particular power or influence who serves as an emotional substitute for a father." (Anonymous) 2014-04-29 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)That was a comment on speculation I've seen up thread and elsewhere. I don't personally think it's likely, either, but I suppose anything's possible in a TV programme!
Going back to your earlier observation, I can see that other people might think like that, but I actually think that Skye is more mature than Steve -- she's certainly had lovers, whereas movie!Steve... possibly not, and there's the whole lost years thing. The man is emotionally vulnerable! But I think that Steve's being a man means he passes under a lot of people's/women's 'age difference = bad' radar.
I honestly didn't get a father-daughter vibe from Skye when she kissed Coulson's hand, nor when she backed him up against May, and his admiration for her emotional strength doesn't feel father-daughter to me either -- because he learns from her -- but I'm biased!
Thanks for replying, btw.
