How is this creepy? Obviously her being a writer isn't some big secret.

The bigger question is: how is this fandom?

Authors are fandom. I expect if we knew the author (given that she must be fairly popular), she probably has a fandom.

Fair enough. But she could have written a text book, or a relationship counselling book, or anything. It doesn't say she was specifically writing genre fiction, and I'm nosy.

Creepy would be continuing to dig for personal information. You heard she won an award, wanted to know what award it was, and found out. Nothing to worry about.

...I feel like you have a giant misconception re:writers and their job? No part of your story is "creepy", objectively speaking. It would have probably been weird if you searched her personal info, but her writing is literally her professional occupation. As long as no one stalks her IRL, the more people know about her writing, the better.

I think that googling somebody's Wikipedia article and reading it is pretty low on the list of creepy...

Oh no, anonymous. It's not scary. You found only the information that is public, and she probably allows it to be known. She is a public figure, and it is expected that some people will want to know certain things about her.

Echoing what everyone else said. You weren't being creepy, OP. You already knew her name and you read completely public information out of innocent curiosity. I think most people would have done the same. (I would have.)

There's nothing creepy about looking up more info on someone's professional life, especially for a public award or something.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-30 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You're ok, OP! You heard about something completely public and above board that someone you knew a little had done, and you looked it up, and it turns out that your acquaintance is well-known and successful in her field. Yay!

There's nothing wrong with what you did or what you know. It's public information about someone with a public career. Please give yourself permission to stop feeling bad about it.

What's creepy about looking up a writer's Wikipedia page? The fact that you know her husband doesn't make it creepy.

It's not like you're hacking into her Facebook or lurking around her house.

OP:

I know this is kinda silly. It just makes me feel a little weird.
She and her husband are really rad people and seem to be awesome parents.
Maybe it's the fact I COULD have been creepy that's physing me out...
I dunno
