Gunnerkrigg Court?

So um can we all just cry about Mort for a bit? I'm really gonna miss him :(

Yes. :( This whole chapter has had me going back and forth between "Awwww!" and ";_;". I mean, Tom has fleshed out his back story fantastically and this is a really touching sendoff, but I'm totally going to miss Mort.

Yeah seriously! I just always assumed Mort would stick around forever, always being goofy and light-hearted and NOT BREAKING MY HEART. clearly I was wrong.

I don't know what I expected, for some reason when we met him I thought he had just always been a ghost. And now look at what I'm learning. D:

Right? I just never questioned it, there's so much weird stuff at Gunnerkrigg, why not just have a ghost hanging around for no reason? But of course it turns out there's tragic reason :(

Agreed. This arc has been awesome.

(And I've been *loving* the Kat-vision vs. Annie-vision for the RotD stuff.)

Yessss the bonus page for the last chapter with the terrifying monster going '...but it's my room...' was the greatest thing I've ever seen

The Kat-vision has been one of my favorite parts of this arc. That bonus page of Kat ordering the giant monster out is amazing too.

I've loved so much about this chapter. Especially where Annie is actually getting to learn to be a guide, it makes me sad to think Surma and all of Annie's predecessors/previous incarnations(?) may not have known any of the stuff she's learning now. I'm really going to miss Mort, he's getting a fantastic send off though. I hope they are able to help Jean after this.

Someone on tumblr pointed out how Annie says "you might start to forget things as we get closer to the ether" which means that probably the same happened to HER MOM and now I can't stop imagining little six-year-old Annie bringing her mom to the ether and her mom slowly forgetting everything about her and it really breaks my heart

If it's any consolation, she wasn't six. Her mother died just before she went to the Court, so she would have been twelve-ish.

...Which is still completely horrible for her, and possibly even moreso because she would be fully aware of the implications of death D:

I love this chapter. It's been so sad... but I also think it's furthered the plot quite a bit. Considering Mort is a very light and fun character, and one who's been there since the beginning, I wonder if this heralds a transition to a darker tone for the comic.

I'm gonna miss Mort. :(

It really has, I love how we're getting introduced to these new concepts (like rotd) but it still feels like the plot's moving along, you know? And I don't know if the comic will get a darker tone perse, because I've felt like one of the best things about gunnerkrigg is how it almost manages to keep a light tone even as things get increasingly dark. But it could mean we're transitioning into some big changes, like a lot of heavy changes with implications for the rest of the comic. Yeah idk if I'm being coherent right now, but basically I agree haha
