Empathy. It's because of empathy. If my family and many of my relatives were brutally murdered, I'm not going to be over the freaking moon if someone decides to write a romanticized tale (for the consumption of children, no less) about their deaths, even if they change a few details here and there and swear that oh no, it's not about ME and MY DEAD FAMILY, it's fantasy! Fantasy that just parallels what happened when MY ENTIRE FAMILY WAS KILLED.

You don't have to feel the same way, of course, but if you don't understand why people might not enjoy having a fairytale made out of their pain and suffering then it may be time to step back and reassess yourself.
