I only watched itbecause Rob Lowe and Gary Sinise were so very nice to look at. Turned out to be OK though.

I developed a major crush on Gary Sinise as a result of that series. I was bummed when he started doing mainstream TV and turned out to be a conservative.

Fuck yeah. Plus I'm a casual Stephen King fan and while I hadn't read the series, I was hoping the movie would give me the boost of interest to do so.

Molly Ringwald was adorable in it too.

MATT FREWEEEEEER

I love Matt Frewer in just about everything he shows up in, but he was especially good here.

Anyway, it was an okay adaptation. Probably one of the better adaptations of King's works. I'll never stop laughing at Flagg, though. He's the embodiment of all that is evil and dark and rotten in the human soul, and in the book he's very effective, but I CANNOT TAKE HIM SERIOUSLY WITH THAT CURLY HAIR-METAL MULLET IN THE MINISERIES

I made the mistake of watching this when I was a kid. The scene where Flagg revealed his true face and raped Nadine freaked me the fuck out and I ended up sleeping with the light on for a long time after that.

The book version of that scene ruined my love for the Eagles' Peaceful Easy Feeling, which used to be a favorite song of mine. NOPE NOT ANYMORE.

Usually horror doesn't get to me very much but for some reason that really got to me and now I can't hear it without shuddering.

The first time I heard "Don't Dream It's Over" was through watching The Stand in the late 90s, and it's all I think about whenever I hear it now.

This was the miniseries that made me love that song!

(I also loved its use of "Don't Fear the Reaper.")

I watched the miniseries because I'd previously watched It. I was... not so much underwhelmed as mildly annoyed at the whole post-apocalypse pseudo-religious feel of the story.
