I agree with your assessment but how is character interpretations you disagree with a tumblr problem? This happens everywhere. In fact why is it a problem at all?

Seconded on all counts.

(Brienne is a foil, but only in the sense that she's Cersei's opposite in almost every way.)

Yeah, pretty sure that JAIME is the person that Cersei wants to be, but can't.

Or, more recently, Tywin.

Yup. I suppose she'd also maybe like to be Dany (if she knew about Dany) but Cersei has a bunch of gender issues and she might not be okay with that.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
But, didn't you just do the same thing?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That was my same reaction.

"And now I will debunk amateur psychology by giving my own analysis, which of course is far superior...because of reasons...."

GOaTsee? A-HAHAHAHA!!! *hiccups*

Why not? It can't be any worse than "OMG so I know it's OOC for him to act this way, but it's my fic so I say he does." At least with the armchair psychology people are trying to get a grasp on the characters. Also, since fictional characters have to be thought up by someone, they tend to fall more easily into "armchair psychology" tropes than actual people.

My main problem with that assessment of Cersei/Brienne (I don't care that much about whether it's accurate), is the line "... evidenced by the sword she carries."

Um. No, her whole entire life/career is the thing that 'evidences' that she "successfully broke gender traditions". Her sword might be symbolic of that, if you wanted to go there, but at least in the show it is not presented that way (unlike Dany's dragons which set her apart from the rest of the throne contenders). I know they're trying to write all clever'n'shit, and they tried it. But still. Ugh. Pet peeve.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-02 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I thought that was dumb, too. Nothing's stopping Cersei from carrying a sword and going around in full armor, it still wouldn't mean she "successfully broke gender traditions" like Brienne, because Brienne's done more than just put on "manly" accessories.

The book spelled out pretty openly that Jaime was everything Cersei wanted to be - herself, but a man, with all the power that comes with it.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-02 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Anyway Cersei >>> Brienne

(Anonymous) 2014-05-02 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I don't entirely disagree with you, but all I'm getting here is "WAHHHHH, SOMEONE HAS A DIFFERENT OPINION THAN ME!! MAKE THEM STOP!!".
