Ohhhhhh yes. Literally the first and only anime I have been a "fan" of in close to ten years. Halfway through the first episode I had already figured out that the main character is basically MADE OF ALL MY FAVORITE CHARACTER TROPES. Even the beard! And although the show overall is pretty much constructed of what seems at first like predictable tropes, they play with them, exaggerating them or turning them on their heads over the course of the story, so it seems to especially appeal to fans who have been around fandom for awhile and know how things are "supposed to" go.

Also it's overwhelmingly silly at times - and then in a split second can swing back to tragic and make you go "hahahahOHSHI-" And I would have appreciated just the silly alone, but the fact it can do both makes it even better. =) The ending felt like a little of a cop-out to be honest, but I suspect they may have realized partway through that it had gained a larger (and different) audience than they expected, and that there was potential to take the franchise further than 26 episodes.
