Thank you. I was wondering if I going insane with so many people agreeing with OP that the Nazis shouldn't always be painted as bad guys because "other countries were bad too. Wah."

What? Seriously. What?1

... i didn't read it as being annoyed by nazis being portayed as the bad guys (because duh) but nazis being chosen as the bad guys instead of group xyz? maybe i read it wrong? english is not my first language...

(Anonymous) 2014-05-04 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right, they're wrong. That is what the OP was saying.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-02 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The problem here is the 'always' part. Yes, they were eviler than evil, but when every time there's an evil guy he's a nazi, it's boring. C'mon, America, Japan, Russia, England, ISrael, they were/are all monsters. Give me some variety.

but when every time there's an evil guy he's a nazi

But that's not the case unless the movie takes place in WWII. Otherwise, these days the bad guys have been portrayed as anyone. US included.

Yes. Germany wasn't responsible for the huge amount of dead people all by itself and the war wasn't limited to Europe.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Look, if the Nazis didn't want to be portrayed as evil they should probably have not killed millions of people while wearing what has got to be the most stereotypical evil guy uniform ever.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
This is completely true. I hate it when people stereotype me as evil, just because I do evil things.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-04 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I love when people take the things that created a stereotype and call it a stereotype. It's like you don't even realize that the only reason that is what "evil" people wear is because it was a reference to these "not at all evil" looking people from a lot time ago. It only looks evil now, because of the constant reference.

The comment proves the OP point.

I thought they meant like, people were equating Germany with Nazis and never looking at other historically (or currently) evil groups.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-04 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
That is because you have good reading comprehension skills. Sadly most people here are projecting things the OP didn't say on to their post.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-02 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hunh. I got that they didn't think Nazis should always be the go-to bad guys, not that they're saying the Nazis don't deserve to be vilified. It's gotten to the point that the German accent is often used as a shorthand for 'bad guys' (I'm talking at the school project level as much as big productions here).

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Give me a modern-day "evil" equivalent that you can use in movies/games WITHOUT causing a tidal wave of controversy.

That's why they always use Nazis. It may be lazy, but it's safe.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Iran. Iraq. They are pretty safe, no one will complain.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Zombies. ;D

I know. I understand, even. I just... kinda want more variety. Some truly ridiculous cult. Some (invented) pseudo-religion that got entirely away from it's founder and is mutating in strange and unpredictable ways. Brainwashing messages in reality tv planted by giant, man-eating space hamsters designed to make people squishy and brainless by the time the arrive for the feasting. Just *something*.
