Re: What the fuck is gender?
Originally, the idea was the gender corresponds to expected behaviors and roles. This is useful because it calls into question the idea that to be a man you must act a certain way, and that to be a woman you must act a certain way.
The social justice of the past few years, however, has lost sight of the fact that gender is about social norms. Rather than question the extant constructs, it plays into them.
