It's actually hard to say how many they killed. We know that it was somewhere from 5.5 to 6 million Jews, but the numbers are much harder to estimate for the other categories of people, especially when it comes to the Eastern Front which was incredibly brutal (and where you also have attribution problems of which civilian deaths to count as part of the Nazi exterminations). A professor I had in college who I respect estimated that the real total of all categories was closer to 20 million.

Anyway, yeah, the Nazis were fucking evil and that's why we consider them villains.
