Yeah, that is kinda hypocritical when you say it like that.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know who this is, but he kinda looks like a hobbit. I didn't know hobbits had political radio shows. What sort of political beliefs does he have?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
That is Sean Astin who played Samwise Gambgee in the LOTR movies. Unless he's changed recently, he's at least leans conservative (which is probably why it's a big deal).

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
If you want to say that Democrats are conservative I'm not necessarily going to argue against you - but he is a Democrat and has supported and worked for a number of Democratic politicians.

Does anyone have links for all of this? I didn't know about his show, entitlement, or anything.

I haven't kept up with Astin, but that is unfortunate. :(

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally I think it's not nesessarily true until proven otherwise. Preferably somewhere offline...

Yea, it might not be. You never know with these things. I typically take this kind of information with a grain of salt.

I hadn't heard anything about this. What are the specifics?

I admit that I don't know about the issue you referring to but I do know that he once did something for a project I'm involved in for no pay and that he really didn't have to do anything for. So it's a shame if he's now exploiting fans - it also seems strange for him to do that.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol no opinion but I totally just saw Sean Austin like ten minutes ago. At Comic Con lol

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
So don't give him your money, problem solved.

[personal profile] ex_mek82 2014-05-03 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, unless the actor/actress is fairly lesser known, I side glare any who do crowd-sourced projects. If they can afford private jets and fancy homes out in Malibu, they can pay for their own passion projects with their own damn money. Especially if involves politics. (I say that as a staunch Independent, in the interest of full disclosure)

That said, idek how much Sean Astin makes, though. I can't imagine voicing Raphael in the recent TMNT cartoon makes him as much as the LOTR trilogy did, but whatever.

I have no idea what this secret is about, but I read his autobiography/memoirs of filming LOTR and thought he came off as an ass. :\

I came here to say exactly this. I have loved Sean Astin ever since Toy Soldiers and Memphis Belle and read his memoir after LotR because he's awesome in those films. Boy does he come off like a whiny baby buttface. So disappointing.

I really don't remember much about the book itself (I bought it a loong time ago) but I always felt the title was kind of ... sketchy? I guess? Like why are you so important, dude, that you get to use "There and Back Again"?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Like pretty much everyone else, I have absolutely no idea what this is referencing. So, knowing only what you've posted and no specifics, my first thought is that there's a big difference between criticizing fanatics who take their obsession to unhealthy levels and asking the average fan to support you, a person they like, in your endeavors.

Like, I support Barack Obama. I don't kiss his feet while worshipping the ground he walks on.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I hadn't heard about this project, but if what you say is true that's disgusting. I cannot stand Sean Astin, so I've always avoided news about him. I think he comes across as the biggest asshole. I read his book 'There And Back Again' and thought he was the most egotistical dick - I never understood what his fans saw in him.

Mind, he is an excellent Samwise.

deets on the autobiography

(Anonymous) 2014-05-04 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
When I read the first line of this secret I thought it was going to be about Samwise Gamgee not being all that great and I thought I was going to have to be very upset.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-04 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here! lol
