unf merlin crying is so hot

Fanon Merlin is annoying? How so? And, lack of fic for Arthur? What? There are a lot of fans of Arthur as well as Merlin...

This secret just confuses me. I've read sooooo much Merlin fic. I mean, a lot of it. There are a lot of Arthur-centric fics.

I second that 'unf'

Why is that? I mean... gawds, nothing gets to me quite like Merlin crying.

Fanon everyone is usually bad. Except fanon Ron Weasley, that version is much better than Rowling's.

Death Eater Ron Weasley or... what's the other fanon version of him?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Death Eater or Drooling Idiot with grasping family are both good. Rowling really crossed the line when she implied a ginger can be intelligent or a good person.

You don't seem to mind the other Weasleys.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Which ones? Idiot Dad, Psycho Mom, Asshole1 and Asshole2, or The slightly less stick up his ass, ginger, version of Scott Summers? Canon on all of those lines up with their hair. Oh and Ginny, or Harry's Oedipus Complex Incarnate, as she is otherwise known?

Well then. Donna Noble and Amy Pond would kindly like to tell you to fuck off.

Merlin does seem to be the favorite, but then again the series is named after him so I don't find it that odd. However, people adore Arthur as well. Isn't like 70% of this fandom's fanfic Merlin/Arthur? There's some damn good fic that heavily features Arthur, though I'm not sure how much Arthur centered gen or Arthur/other you'd find. I've looked in the past and didn't find much.

And Merlin is adorable. Not sure what makes 'fanon Merlin' so bad, but I also feel like he's not always written exactly the same.

though I'm not sure how much...Arthur/other you'd find

Well, there's rather a lot of Arthur/Gwen fic out there. :-P

Ooo, right, right. That makes sense, though I never noticed it.

I was mostly looking for Arthur/his knights...I don't think I've read one het fic in Merlin fandom.

I read like half a Merlin/Morgana fic but it wasn't as interesting as I thought it was going to be.

I can totally see where Merlin/Morgana comes from, though it doesn't do much for me personally. I would imagine the fic would be great, though; there's plenty to work with.

And I was going for Uther/Arthur back then. *sigh*

...I would be lying if I said it hadn't crossed my mind, though I don't think I've read any. That relationship could be portrayed in so many dirty-bad-wrong ways.

I think it depends on the sort of fic you read. There's a large amount of Merlin-the-martyr-who-is-being-abused-by-the-knights-but-is-too-noble-to-tell-Arthur fic out there, usually ending with someone lecturing Arthur (or Gaius, or Gawaine, or Gwen) about everything Merlin has done for them without them noticing. That's something that I haven't seen as much of in other fandoms, though of course there's always some. The setup in Merlin just plays to this trope really strongly, even in canon, so when people are writing fic it tends to be something that they lean on heavily.

lmao, being abused by the knights? They adore Merlin! Some more-so than Arthur, imo. That's hilarious. I've seen it a couple times but I always nope the fuck out of there; I wasn't aware there was so much of it.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-04 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Most of the time it's random OC noble knights, back when Uther was king, rather than any of the main characters. But yes, it's surprisingly popular depending on where you go.

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-05-04 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooo, that makes more sense than any of the knights of the round table. Though I wouldn't put it past fandom to write that as well.

Only ever dipped my toes into the fandom side of Merlin, but the more I think about series, I agree with you OP. Arthur was kept in the dark 99% of time, so I can forgive his occasional stupid decision (with the exception of his banishment of Gwen), but Merlin. Oh my God. Merlin.

Blame the writing or blame the character, but so many of their in-universe problems could've been solved by him just trusting Arthur (and Morgana) with stuff and just not being a drama llama every once and a while.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
This. I mostly blame the writers rather than the character though. But in universe it does make Arthur easier to like.

D'awww, I love Arthur too. Probably a bit more than Merlin, actually but I still love him as well. It's just that I was so ready to throw a frying pan at his head when he finally made his big reveal and go: "REALLY? YOU CHOSE TO TELL HIM THIS NOW?"

Arthur is the fucking best. He is the reason I watched for 5 years. I have way more Arthur-related emotions than Merlin-related emotions.
