I've been looking for a good fic about Haymitch's Games for ages (any recs, anyone?), but an official spinoff would of course be welcome.

Watching this right now. So much better than the book. Wouldn't mind a Haymitch spin-off either though.

As the comments above indicate, I can 100% guarantee you that you would not be alone in reading that novel.

Meanwhile, you *have* seen this film that some dedicated fans made , yes? If not, you must. I honestly think the Catching Fire movie didn't show flashbacks or footage of Haymitch's quell because they didn't think they could beat this version.

I've read some Haymitch fic that mentions his games, but nothing that's just focused on him in during those particular games. I like Haymitch a lot, so I'd love to see more fic featuring him.

I kind of have been tempted to write something like this, endgame one-sided Effie/Haymitch.

I'd love a proper book/movie, though. :D

(Haymitch is my favorite dude from the series, and actually the reason I read the books at all--I love Woody Harrelson. I ended up liking the rest of the story on its own merits but that was what piqued my curiosity.)

Dude, like the whole time I read the books I kept thinking "why isn't Haymitch the protagonist?" I could not much stand Katniss and her complete lack of awareness with just about everything. Haymitch was badass and tough and made big plans. I'm not a fan of the series, but I love him.

Would definitely read. Haymitch wound up being one of my favorite characters... (and man, most of my favorite characters wound up dying too, so it was nice to love a survivor)

I would devour prequels telling us how the USA became Panem, how Snow came to power or any of the previous Games, specifically the Quarter Quells.

I think Haymitch's Game would be the best place to start.
