But even before the shooting he was an abusive and controlling boyfriend.

But I do get the woobie effect, I'm that way with a few characters. Just never even considered it for him! (Not bashing, btw, you do your thang)

Yeah, he was an abusive dick, I'm not denying that. It was when he came back, and he did seem honestly repentant and said he was getting counseling for how not to be an abusive dick, and everyone still kept crapping all over him. It felt wrong. :\

Oh I definitely feel you on that. I felt so bad for him during that post-abusive ass pre-shooting period. I felt like he really was trying.

And I've got to give it to the actor, I think he did a really good job with the character type and how he played it all.
