This doesn't deal with fanfic, but I heard that Vic Micnogna said that Ed from FMA was religious despite the evidence to the contrary. I dunno how true it is, I read it in a thread on /cgl/.

Mignogna's brought it up at conventions. I don't know if he wilfully ignored all of Edward's lines about religion and God and belief, or if his tiny brain rejected them outright.

Miceggnog is not exactly an unbiased authority on the subject of religion. He's not any kind of authority on the religion of characters he didn't create.
