I haven't picked up a Spider-man comic since OMD, but I've been keeping up on what's going on through Scans Daily and Co. If I am correct the current situation is:

Peter get's brain swapped with otto.
Otto (in peters body) takes over his life.
People grow concerned he's going to rape MJ by pretending to be peter.
This, mercifully, does not occur.
Otto (in peters body) starts dating Ana Maria.

Peter takes back his body from Otto.
Peter continues to date Ana.
This is sketch, right? This is, well, rape, right? Am I the only one seeing this?

Dating does not automatically equal sex or sexual touching. It's definitely weird, but it's not rape (unless it is a sexual relationship, of course).

It's been indicated that the relationship was indeed sexual.

Wasn't it rape to begin with because Peter wasn't the one in control of his body? So Peter was the first one to be raped under this logic.

It's definitely sketchy! I'm not sure whether it's definitely rape. There are a lot of comic details I'm not familiar with.

Did Ana know it was Otto in Peter's body? Did Ana previously know Peter or Otto? Is Ana aware that whoever she's dating is Spider-man?

In the earlier case, people were afraid that Otto -- pretending he was Peter -- was going to have sex with someone who believed he was Peter.

If Ana did not know it was Otto in Peter's body, then she think's he's Peter and he is Peter, but the Peter she entered the relationship with wasn't Peter, and... this is confusing.

Whatever. Obviously Otto wouldn't tell anyone he took over Peter's body. Does Peter have some compelling reason not to explain about the body-taking-over business? Because just being honest about this would clearly be the most moral thing to do.

Seriously people need to become informed about this.

Peter is as uncomfortable about dating Ana as the audience! He has not attempted as much as a handshake!

Ana Maria always thought she was dating Peter. So she continues the relationship with the real personality and still likes him and they do have sex it's consensual.

I mean it's an impossible situation. Like the other poster said throughout the whole thing the real Peter was sexually and mentally abused but people only give a shit if it's a girl that might have sex, and enjoy it, with a mind swapped person?

I haven't seen any outrage about it, so my guess is that people that are actually reading the comic as opposed to seeing a couple scans know that this is not really what happened. How about you ask an actual reader?

This entire thing sounds sketchy as hell, from Otto taking control of Peter's body and starting to date someone 'as him', to Peter then regaining control of his body and continuing to date the girl without mentioning any of it.

But I haven't read the actual comics, so...I don't know how accurate any of this is or how different it might appear in the actual story.

Wait, on #1 Peter has just found out Otto dated Anna while in his body, right? At least that's what I saw posted - I don't read Spider-man.

that's a ludicrous plot from a writing standpoint, and sketchy as hell.
and yeah, i'd say that's deception, if not outright rape or non-con/dubcon.

EXACTLY. Why do we have to figure out all the appropriate rules for magical body transference "what if's"? And to apply real-world terms to things that can't possibly happen in the real world, just strikes me as both ludicrous and somehow diminishing of the real-world usage of the word "rape". Ridiculous.

For me, I don't HAVE to figure out the rules, nut I want to. I used to like Peter. From the age of about 5 spider-man was my go-to hero, and now it feels like (From what little I've seen) he's doing something pretty evil. It troubles me, and I'd really like to know (1.If I'm right to be troubled (2. Why no-one else is as troubled as I am (3. If I'm just being silly and muh spidey is still a good guy.

it's pretty sketchy. I mean, you could argue that peter's body was initially being violated because someone else had control over it. and you could argue that ana was being violated because she thought that she was dating the actual peter parker rather than some dude chilling out in the body. and now I guess you could argue that she's being violated again because even though she's dating the person she initially wanted to date (peter parker in mind and body), she actually fell in love with otto in peter's body which now makes the current situation deceptive.

obviously something like this would never happen in real life to due many reasons, but the closest equivalent I can think of is if a woman dated (and slept with) an identical twin B who she thought was identical twin A and then after a while, the twins switched places (for...some reason) and the woman began unknowingly dating twin A, who is the person she thought she was dating in the first place. is this rape? maybe? yes? kind of?

So maybe you should look into it before you talk?

Peter hasn't done anything with Ana except go "Oh shit! I'm dating some girl now I've never even talked to! Jesus Otto you dick!"

and because parker luck kicked back in, before he could even try to wade throught his quaqmire, the next time he talked to her she'd immediately sussed it all out and was all "wait a minute your spiderman!"

This is actually m attempt to look into it. Short of buying the comics in question (Hahano) My best option to "look into it" would be to ask some fannish people what's up and what it means. Hence this post.

I suppose I could have asked in other fannish spaces. Maybe I should have been asking the good people of /Co/ a sensitive question about rape. I don't post on Scans Daily because I may develop an ulcer. Talking to you guys seem to be the way to go.

What I can infer from the replies so far is:
They've not done anything sexual yet (From your good self)
Peter feels weird about continuing the relationship
Peter has apparently now got an opening to tell her the whole story
If the relationship follows the path I had assumed it had already taken, the general consensus is it's far too much of a muggy situation to call clearly but it's definitely sketchy.

I find it kind of disconcerting that you skipped right to "Peter is a rapist", and never once thought, "Oh wait, Peter's body is having sex without Peter's consent because it's someone else in his body. That's pretty sketchy/rapey!"

But you didn't. So I'm going to assume troll.

I'm actually talking about the situation that has arose since peter regained control of his body. While Ock was in peters body, there is no doubt about the fact that peter was a victim of rape. Sine getting his body back, however, his choices regarding any future sexual encounter are... worth considering.

Different anon: Well, this thread would have worked better if you had specifically asked people who actually read the comic to explain it to you. But anyway, Peter has just got his body back and he's just finding out what Ock did with it. On #1 he found out Ock-in-his-body was dating Anna Maria and before anything else could be said or done she confronted him about being Spiderman. That's the whole thing so far.
