I'm a a Christian

But I totally see where you're coming from. I remember reading a fanfiction where one character started reciting the entire 'Hail Mary' out of nowhere (especially because they were not hinted at being religious at all in canon)

Why is it when a character who has no canon-religious affiliation is always Christian? (or occasionally Jewish) Can't people even try to mix it up a bit?

It's a classic 'Write what you know' scenario, pretty much. Even if someone isn't religious at all, it's Christianity they know just by osmosis from culture or personal experience.

Or maybe people just don't want to offend for one reason or another. Or maybe they're too lazy to do the research. (Personally, I enjoy reading about religions from all over the world, but that's just me)

And it's almost always Catholic, too. I can count on one hand the number of Catholics I know, yet they're the only Christians (except maybe Baptists) in fic.

Also Christian, and I share your view.

I have the potential to get really erked if I were to run across such a fic, as one of the things I happen to love in fantasy settings is the cosmological details that include the gods.

I don't quite get why some people find the idea of fictional gods so threatening to their religion. It's a failure to separate Real Life from fiction.

I'd be extra offended right now, with my current fandom, and laugh in the face of anyone who said Eru Ilúvatar was demonic.
