How can a character be Jewish if Judaism doesn't exist in that world?

I also feel the same way about Japanese characters interacting with religion in a casual Western-type of way, even if (obviously) it's not a fantasy world. Like exclaiming "Jesus Christ!" C'mon people, think outside your bubble JUST a little.
