You're talking to someone who is not much of a shipper. I'm a gen-fan and it ... well, I understand when people want to mix up gender and sexuality in fic simply because they don't get enough canons to their liking, but I get annoyed whenever I meet someone ditching their very clear canon love interest, or said canon love interest pulling a Die For Our Ship, or being shown as a turbo-bitch for the sake of the alternate boning.

In all things, there is fanfic writing with respect to the character personalities as they are laid down (and able to be developed), and then there's the point where you're writing characters and worlds In Name Only.
