Literally never? for the sake of being pedantic it's used in it's literal context in A Christmas Carol which is probably the most frequently adapted book to film, and stage EVER!

I know that's a silly example but I have tried to purge it from my vocabulary because I know it offends people, and simply because I think there are better descriptors to use (Bland, ineffectual, poorly implemented) depending on what I'm talking about. Stupid, and moronic I have a hard time getting by without though.

Hmm, you are right. I shouldn't have used the word "literally". But almost never, especially in non-academic, non-artistic settings.
