Twain openly mocked the series (and Fenimore Cooper) in one of his essays...

LOL Thank you for clearing that up.

So Mark Twain mocking the series is why there is no slash for the books that James Fenimore Cooper wrote, what, 160 years ago?

Does that make Mark Twain the original OMG MEEN GIRL BNF?

It's more that everyone is all:

"Lawl, Cooper sucks!"
"Why?"
"MARK TWAIN SAID SO!!! :D :D"

And then they never read the books.

OH! I get it now. I was chasing around in circles trying to figure that out.

what's stopping you from writing it?

1. I don't really write that well.

2. No one would get it.

3. I draw fanart of 'em, but I never put it up anywhere....because no one would get it.

1. You'll get better with practice!

2. Bet someone will. That's the nature (and the beauty) of the internet. You'll never know until you put it out there. Who knows? You may end up turning someone around and they'd be willing to give JFC a chance.

3. See #2. Just because they aren't in your immediate circle of friends doesn't mean there aren't people out there who would 'get it' but they'd love it as well.

Even if they don't get it-- heck, even if the books are as horrid as Twain describes (I wouldn't know, I've never read them, though it's on my list of books to someday read)-- it doesn't mean you shouldn't write it or post your art.

In real internet example: I know an author who's written two epic fanfics and several shortfics for a cheesy Victorian boy's adventure novel, and she's managed to make fans out of a bunch of people who've never even READ the book. You never know until you try~ and if you explain alongside your creations, people will get interested. :D

(There's also this comm, rarelitslash I think it's called? JUST SAYING. XD )

THEY ARE. THEY ARE TRULY AS HORRID AS TWAIN DESCRIBES.

Bizarre. Never stopped the Jane Austen fandom.
