(Anonymous) 2014-05-04 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)I try really hard not to feel bothered when everyone I know (being from the US) pronounces Anne Frank.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-07 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)And whether you spell it Ann or Anne doesn't matter to me either, it's clearly the same name and I am cool with your best try. One of the oldest and most popular in the world in fact, since it's the name of the mother of the Virgin Mary, so it's pretty self-explanatory, like other biblical names such Eve or Rachel etc. To give you an idea of how long this name has been around and why it shows up so often in so many countries.
No, what really gets my goat is being asked repeatedly to spell it by someone who stares as me as if they cannot believe I have such a stupid, unheard-of name and then end up typing it in their database as 'Hane' or Aynnie' or 'Nahnee' or whatever unbelievable combination they can dream up in spite of my carefully spelling it for them... I kid you not, this is now happening more and more frequently to me.
Really, it's not that difficult to spell or to pronounce, people, any close approximation will do!
Just don't make a huge song and dance about it please, it only encourages the weirdoes...
