being in this situation has made me lose enthusiasm for fandom and source material at least twice.

i'm always a bit impressed by people who have the energy to organize fests and shit to promote what they actually like. 10 times out of 10 i'm just like, "...nah. lemme check some other playground." i'm a quitter, i come from a long line of quitters, it's amazing i'm here at all etc.

Same here (mentioned my story/fandom a few comments above). And it sucks, because I'm the "if you want something done, do it yourself" type. No one else writing this fic/drawing this character (or ship)? I'll just do it myself.

Needless to say, after getting raked over the coals/singled out (and not necessarily in a good way) a couple of times, it just sapped what little enjoyment I had right out of me. And with a couple newer fandoms I've been eyeing, I just don't want to go through that anxiety/heartbreak again, lmao.
