Except her memories of her sister's abilities were erased so in effect she has no true memories of Elsa, especially how important Elsa's powers were between them before...

And we can handwave anything, but the movie made it a point of showing that they never saw each other ever again. If they had, Anna would probably have known about the gloves and how touchy Elsa had become about them.

So you can imagine anything if you wish, but if you actually watch the movie with a bit of attention, you'll notice that no they didn't grow up together.

Not to say that the storyline as a whole made any sense, because I'll be the first to admit that it didn't. For instance, it's as if they grew up without any adult intervention, love or authority once their parents died which apparently happened right after the initial accident?
