Old, Old fan fics you wrote that you still remember

[personal profile] ex_mek82 2014-05-05 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
The other day, I recalled an ancient FF7 fan fic I wrote when I was about 12-13. It was one where Barrett started up his own version of the A-Team (complete with the 'helluva fast' van) and... it was pretty much your bog standard crackfic that you'd find every few feet on FF.Net at the time (it was 1999-2000ish). Sadly, the original fic is no longer up (not sure if that's a good or bad thing. I'd have loved to see it roasted on fanfiction_txt, but it was a "nice" walk down memory lane none the less.

So FSers, what are your "old shames"/things you can't believe you actually wrote?

Oh, man, I wrote some horribly embarrassing wincest fic back in the day. Just horribly written, OOC, bizarre crap. They're all off the internet (as far as I know) and I am forever grateful for that.

Easy for me to remember! I wrote three terrible fanfics that were an RP background for my WoW character. They are still online. Eh. He. He.

You remember those standardize tests that you had to take? I wrote a Yu Yu Hakusho gen fanfic for the writing portion in middle school iirc. It was the only fanfic I wrote and it embarasses me to this day.

Oh dear

uh

a lot of really dumb Inuyasha fics in 2005, couple of dumb Naruto fics in 2007... A lot of song fics, like, one with Inuyasha mooning over Kagome, and trying to decide if he should apologize or not, to the song "Because I Love Her" from one of the Swan Princess movies, but IDK which one anymore.

At least one really bad attempted-smut-that-didn't-actually-turn-out fic for the Disney Animated Kink Meme, because I didn't know what I was doing, and was too afraid to do the research. Thank goodness I posted that one anonymously. :D

I don't remember much about it, and it's long gone, but ages and ages ago I wrote a Kim Possible fanfic involving Kim's evil twin "Kim Popsicle". Dr. Drakken also had a "good twin" called "Dr. Drak", and the only thing I remember from the fic is that he was introduced holding up a sign that said so. Also, I was convinced Shego was spelled "Sheego". That was, I believe, the first fanfic I ever posted anywhere. Fun times.

I'm not really ashamed, but I did have some horrible handwritten in a spiral notebook Digimon and Pokemon Sue fic. The Digimon one was like 20 pages of me being in love with Matt and being bros with Izzy and bashing the fuck out of Tai. It was the quintessential Sue-fic you write when you are 10-11. The Pokemon one I never finished, but I was in love with Ash for some reason. Thank fuck I didn't have the internet back then because my shitty OCs (I had sooo many Digimon ones) would have been all over geocities.

I have HP fic from when I was around 14 (2003) still up on ff.net. The worst part is that it's the conclusion to an elaborate headcanon that I only ever posted that part of. There was more of it that I wrote and never shared, and a TON of corresponding artwork. So embarrassing!

There's also some slightly later stuff still up that I'm much prouder of- the Hermione/Draco thing for the sheer length of the thing (17k+, still the longest thing I've ever written); and the Victorian Hogwarts stuff because it involved a lot of research.

oh, goodness. i just remembered this fic i started back in 2009. it was a hp gen fic where kingsley shacklebolt becomes head of hogwarts. it wasn't in english, because my english was really shitty at the time (i was 15), and it was pretty terrible. i had a thing for witty descriptions, so i tried to describe everything in the wittiest way i could think of, even really mundane things like eating a sandwich or going to sleep.
so basically kingsley had to find new staff because all of them retired at the same time (except the defense against the dark arts one, of course), and that was a very convenient excuse to put all of my favorite characters in the same place. so you had oliver wood as the quidditch teacher, charlie as the care of magical creatures teacher, etc. it was really fun to write, but i realize now that it was probably pretty terrible.

All Harry Potter.

- A fic where Sirius came back from the dead as an angel or ghost (this was left ambiguous) to save Remus's daughter from him, because she'd accidentally walked in while he was transforming.

- A Romeo and Juliet parody with Ron and an OC, who was a Slytherin. In my defense, this was early on in fandom when it wasn't such a cliche.

- A songfic to Sarah McLachlan's "Arms of an Angel." (Or is it Arms of the Angel? I always forget.)

What was wrong with me?

There are still possibly four or five horrible, angsty Harry Potter drabbles of mine floating around, if the LJ comm still exists. The worst was the one that involved Ginny lounging around in a tree and dramatically shedding a single tear over how Harry didn't love her. Just 300-something words worth of Ginny lying in a tree and angsting in purple prose.

I've written a lot of bad fics in my time, but luckily the rest were on my FF.net account and I deleted them.

There was my one attempt at a non-one shot where I didn't plan it out so I had to stop writing when Harry Potter ended up blind because I realized I couldn't do it justice.

I had a few WIPs for Daria fanfic that involved an OC who was deejay that was legally emancipated and lived with her mentor. The OC was Daria's age and befriended her but had problems with Daria's attitude thanks to a very long history of neglect. I posted a chapter on ff.net but took it down due to poor feedback.

The other day I was randomly reading old fic, too.

I think the one that made me cringe the most was my songfic. the fic itself wasn't THAT horrible for a fourteen year old, but the song lyrics interspersed through every couple of paragraphs, whoo me

I wrote a novella length Star Wars story with a slighty Sueish main character who has a less-than-pleasant run-in with Darth Vader.

If you spare the Rachni Queen in Mass Effect, a former smuggler shows up in the sequel and tells you how Rachni saved her life. For a contest, I wrote a fic explaining her backstory in more detail. The judges praised how I wrote the Rachni Queen, but apparently I failed at making the smuggler interesting or even consistent.

Some awful Star Trek TNG fic when I was a teenager back in the '80s. The only cliche I didn't pile into them was a Mary Sue. Thank god internet access was still limited back then.

My not-quite-as-bad-but-still-embarrassing Buffy fic is still online in a few places, including DW.

I was actually just thinking about my old FF7 fic myself the other day! It was in fact about an OC female who was another of Hojo's experiments, who Sephiroth happened to free from the reactor in Nibelheim on "that fateful day", wound up brainwashed into joining SOLDIER, then later was contracted to kill Sephiroth. Instead, their eyes met, something sparked a memory in her, and he kissed her, and ... yeah. OFC/Sephiroth romance. To my credit, at least she did recognize that he was seriously screwed in the head and not a good guy, and he was not redeemed by being loved, and at the end she wound up killing him. And having his baby, which she was pregnant with for most of the story. And then there was the sequel where said kid was an emo teenager who found out who his father was, decided that someone had obviously been covering things up, and found a way to resurrect him.

...To be honest I still think these were not actually that bad, aside from the premise being horribly cliche. At least, like I said, there was no "really he's a good guy, just misunderstood" or "redeemed by the love of a good woman" element.

I may also have written a blatant self-insert... or rather, the opposite, in that it involved Sephiroth showing up at my house one night and me taking him in because he had nowhere else to go. But that was a gen fic, not a romance, and I never showed it to anyone except like two people who knew about it and asked to see it. I mean, if I wrote it. Which maaaaybe I did. But maybe I didn't. YOU WILL NEVER KNOW. (Don't judge me ;_;)

I keep most of my old fic and rather like it, all except one, where I wrote Inuyasha characters singing to rap songs with rewritten lyrics that fit their canon, starting with "Cleaning Out My Closet". I blazed that one out of existence.

The first fic I ever wrote was a self-insert "fourth sister" Charmed fic (this was well before the introduction of Paige) wherein Patty and Victor had another kid (let's just call her Pmary Psue), but due to some sort of prophecy/curse/whatever Patty had to magic her a couple decades into the future as an infant to be raised by Victor without the other three's knowledge, so she ended up being a middle schooler when her sisters were in their 20s. I... don't know where little!me was going with that; I never finished it. I suspect it basically would have been the Jenny character, but more intolerable because magic.

Some really, really shit fanfic of my DnD characters which has since been removed from the internet.

As for an established fandom... Ooooh gosh, I think it was some really terrible Batman/Wonder Woman thing that I wrote when I was 14.

Oh god. I wrote Seiya/Usagi fic that I posted on FFN. So, so embarrassing. I went back and tried to read it recently and had to replace all the butchered, dumb faux-Japanese just to get through the first few chapters. So much shame.

Several metric shit-tons of bad poetry in the voices of various Phantom of the Opera characters, from when I was a twelve-year-old with acne and related to the Opera Ghost so hard. But that was in the days of Prodigy BBs, so there's no chance of it following me.
