Just looking around at AO3, Tumblr, and FFN, I don't think anyone has to worry about writers going away. And if the current crop has to go get real jobs (what makes you think they don't already have real jobs, OP? Puh-lease), then a new crop will grow to take their place.

Seriously. I produced the most fic when I was working full-time. It was a good way to relax for me, and people like my writing.
