Hell, even writers you see on the bookshelves, most of the time, don't support themselves via writing. Many of them have day jobs, and yet they still manage to crank out books. Imagine that.

Yes, this is true, especially in recent times. It is very rare for a writer to live off their books.

Yes, but they are ALSO getting money for the books. It's not 100% investment of time that has no monetary compensation, like fanfiction is.
