A fandom without fanwork to enjoy

(Anonymous) 2014-05-07 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
It's gotten really hard for me to enjoy some fandoms. Avengers/Thor in particular - I don't even block that much stuff with my AO3 savior, but of the 20 fics per page, 12-15 are usually hidden and the rest either doesn't interest me or I'm suspicious if it's another untagged surprise M-preg or some shit. I guess that fandom just isn't for me anymore.

Do you have any fandoms that you'd like to enjoy but just can't because of the lack of fanwork relevant to your interests?

Most of the fandoms I'd actually want to read are so small that almost no one is writing.

Oh yeah. I have a lot of those as well. Some of them were always pretty non-existant, other were moderately present but have long since died/dried up.

More sitcoms than I'd like to admit. ;)

Most of my fandoms have no fanwork or very little. This is fine by me, because most of my fandoms would just generate some seriously cringe-worthy fanwork because the fandoms themselves are cringey.

SPN is like that for me. I only dabble in it (I've seen maybe 3 episodes this season?) and the fandom rarely has anything that appeals to me.

Also, a few years ago I was really into Burn Notice, and couldn't find any fanworks that really interested me. V. sad.

I'm either looking in all the wrong tags/places, or there just isn't enough Ten/Eleven stuff out there. It doesn't even have to be porn! Damnit, guys.

Well, if it's a big fandom I've always found something to enjoy, even if it meant shuffling through tones of works.

Since I've gotten back into Bones (thanks, unemployment), I find myself not really wanting to deal with all the B&B stuff, which is about 98% of the fanwork/discussion. It's frustrating. I'm amazed I've even found one halfway decent character study fanfic that doesn't involve any sort of shipping whatsoever.
