Re: Complain about Tumblr all in one easy thread

tbh I think if a person is in that fragile of a mental state, they should take it upon themselves to not go places online where they might encounter words like that-- which includes, unfortunately, all of social media. Diabetic people have to monitor their diets all the time; if they eat candy it can make them really sick, even if they really really want to. If having triggers is a legit illness it should be treated the same way. The entire planet doesn't stop making cookies just because some people are diabetic, just like the entire internet can't stop using certain words (and honestly, there are probably more words than you could count which would trigger someone somewhere) because they cause anxiety attacks to some.

+1 but the reason these people don't do that is because they don't have real PTSD. Not difficult to figure out. Just look one thread up from this one.

Diabetic people rely on food producers to inform them of the sugar content in what they make, they ask the barista not to put sugar in their coffee if they ask them not to, it's not 100% on them to avoid all mass produced food or shut up about their illness. Compromise is how we share the planet with people who have different needs than our own, it's not all or nothing.

Pretty sure the person triggered by the word epilepsy isn't going around expecting the world to stop using a the word, because that would be unreasonable, much like expecting her to stop interacting with the world is unreasonable. Most likely she just tries to avoid the word and probably asks people who hang out with her not to use it. Compromise. You're the only one I see railing against that as much as idiots on tumblr do.

"railing against" is a pretty aggressive term lol
