I have a lot of fandom friends who support themselves soley on their fandom work.

sorry, but i'm skeptical of that because i know multiple professionally-trained artists who have tried and failed to make a living that way, even when they drew stuff from super-popular fandoms. like the above anon said, it wasn't consistent income, and even when it was, it wasn't enough.

maybe they could've done it if they churned out a lot of low-quality work but they wanted to give the people who commissioned them their money's worth.
