This is true. Sometimes Firefox gets my PC fans running harder than a damn video game with only a dozen tabs open. I use it anyway because Chrome is the devil.

I know at one time I was having trouble with Firefox and memory leakage, and one solution to it was to keep an empty tab open, or reload an empty tab. I basically always have an empty tab open at this point, mostly because it's at the front of my tabs where all the old stale tabs I mean to use some day love and I forget it's there.

No idea if that's still helpful.
