OP Here
(Anonymous) 2014-05-07 08:19 am (UTC)(link)I don't ship real people, and I'm not about to dive down that rabbit hole either. Yikes. But this is the first time I've found myself sitting back and frowning, because I couldn't help but have that thought come into my mind. I'd never assume what type of crush it was, but I think there is some crushing going on (I'm leaning towards friendship crushing, I do it often enough myself because *sets up neon signs* I don't have a lot of friends).
But yeah, I think it's the touchy thing. It's uncommon for me to see people, even actors, as touchy as Hoechlin is with some of his cast mates. Without knowing if they are good friends, or just coworkers, it seems weird to me. I also have no plans to do an extensive search to find out the nature of their friendship, that seems creepy to me.
Hell, I stopped using twitter because I was becoming uncomfortable with seeing celebrities personal pictures, like I was part of their group of friends. I understood that it was their choice to put it online, but as someone who has trouble making friends, and sees a therapist for social anxiety, it was too much. It gave me a false feeling of friendship, and as I recognized it as such, I stopped using twitter.
I guess I'm just not a very active fandom-y person.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-07 09:20 am (UTC)(link)The writers definitely hammed up the "sterek" after fans latched onto their chemistry in S1. That had a lot to do with just their interactions during scenes (eg. the staring-at-each-other's-lips thing).
Outside the show, Hoechlin does tend to gush about Dylan, doesn't he? He seems like a pretty tactile person in the first place, so that doesn't help. And I've seen many instances where he's the one that brings Dylan up, and I don't think that's a purposeful "queerbait" thing, I think Hoechlin just genuinely admires Dylan and his talent.
Though I don't actually read Dylan/Hoechlin fic, I can see why it's appealing to you. I have no shame reading RPS as that's how I started out in fandom many years ago.
I've never presumed to know anything about real life people I've read about beyond what's right in front of me, fiction is fiction, and I don't ever insist that it's otherwise - to them or anyone else.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-07 09:42 am (UTC)(link)The furthest I usually get with rps is The Voice, where Adam Levine and Blake Shelton used to cuddle up for the camera. It was usually obvious that it was mostly for show, but turns out they might be pals off the set. I think that's pretty cool.
I'm a big fan of partner acts. Like when two actors suddenly do a bunch of movies where it is the two of them, in different roles playing off of each other. Matt Damon and Ben Aflek, Matthew Mcconaughy and Kate Hudson, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, View Askew productions, hell... anything Judd Apatow makes. I really like that, not because I've got romantic shipper goggles on, but more that I like seeing how they become more comfortable with each other, and play and act off each other.
I feel just as warmly about entertainment duo's like Penn and Teller, or music groups that have two leads that harmonize and play with each other (first thought was Of Monsters and Men).
Can't fault the writers for writing something that got them a lot of attention... unless it's purposefully teasing said fans to try and keep them on support for a show (SPN comes to mind for that). I don't see anything wrong with building upon chemistry that is already there, whether it be turning it into enemies, or friendship, or love. Chemistry can work to fuel scenes with passion in them, doesn't matter if it's rage or adoration.
It's definitely possible that I am reading too far in, and that Hoechlin gushes because he's a fan of Dylan's just like so many other people are. There is raw acting potential in Dylan, that if honed in and crafted properly can make him into a household name. I don't know if Hoechlin has that staying power, so maybe he's a bit starstruck in a way. That said, I'd like to see more acting from Hoechlin and less abs (even if I'd lick melted things off that skin). I'd like him to prove his chops, so if there is an acting partnership that can travel to other media, he'll be along for the ride, rather than just a friend.
Sorry if this got weird and rambly, 10 hours of an overnight shift at work can do that to ya.
Re: OP Here
(Anonymous) 2014-05-07 10:52 am (UTC)(link)Offset, the Teen Wolf cast seem to be a tight-knit group that get along awesomely, if you haven't already, I recommend watching the finale of Wolf Watch just for the two Tylers and Dylan's interactions.
I think the writers are trying to back off on sterek now, which is good as the teasing wasn't fair to the fans or the actors (since they really have no idea where anything is going on the show). Even with the backing off there's a lot of camaraderie and genuine admiration for one another, which is nice. I wouldn't be surprised if Hoechlin did have a crush, just saying...
Anyhow, yep love Dylan's acting in the show, and I'm okay with Hoechlin honing his acting chops whilst showing more skin, tbh.
