Fandom Secrets Reading Patterns?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-07 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
when a new post comes up, how do you read the secrets and the threads?

I skim, looking for my secrets, and jump to the relevant threads if any have been posted. Then I look more closely at all the secrets and finally at the general thread.

Look over the secrets quickly. Read any that are about fandoms I care about, or that catch my eye for whatever reason. Respond if I have any immediate responses. Then just wait for the threads to develop and see if there's any interesting conversations.

Look over all the secrets. Write down the numbers of the ones that interest me because I can't remember that many numbers usually. Read the comment threads for the ones I'm interested in. If I have a secret that has been posted, I'll read those comment threads first and also leave them open to check back on later.

I always forget the number and use the links in the comments to remember which secret was which.

Back in the day I used to have to write down the numbers of the secrets but the number has declined so much that I can usually just remember now

I do this exact same thing. Also, if the comments for a secret I wasn't interested before get super long I might check it out to see who started wank. (Because let's admit it's normally wank.)

Read the secrets, go down to the comments and use first comments as a guide to remind me of which one is which. If first comments fail to enlighten me, then I'll either scroll back up or right-click open the link.

Sometimes if there's a lot of secrets relevant to my interests, and/or I get here late, I'l open the comment threads in new tabs.

Then I check who has dragons and look at General comments. I also tend to open long interesting threads in new tabs.

Today I'm here early.

I do this in a word document, and then add a short summary next to the numbers. Like, number one is currently "easy friend" and seven is "leaving fandom" and eleven is "new spiderman dude." I find it helps. :)

I do that summary thing too! Except I make it short or about a word long so that I remember what it was. And it's in a sticky note for windows.

The one I have open right now from some other day (because there were no secrets today to comment on) reads like this:
    1 hair
    2 sandman
    3 pb
    6 wilton

I remember back when secrets didn't have their own thread, I would write out the number and comment I planned in a .txt file as I went. It was pretty easy to forget what I thought I had to say about anything while reading a chunk ton of these things.

> If I have fandom related news, I immediately post in the GC. See: Today.
Then I skim for secrets that I'd like to talk about.

Read the secret, remember the ones I want to see the comments for, open tabs for each of those threads and the second page/GC on and then just periodically refresh them...

I look at the secrets closely enough to tell if they're about a fandom or topic I care about, and if they are I pay more attention to them, note the and then catch the threads.

Unless a secret inspires a comment I just can't wait to make, then I'll go do that and finish looking at the rest.

I read all of the secrets, but sometimes if it's Friday, or I'm really late to the post, I just skim it for secrets that interest me. If I find a secret I want to discuss or check out the comments for, I immediately go to the thread for that secret and open it in a new tab to peruse after I finish reading the other secrets.

I generally skim and read the secrets relevant to my interests.

I skim. Anything that I care about, I check the comments, or if it's particularly eye-catching (usually wanky.)

Read all the secrets. Open a second tab so I can see the secret being discussed in the comments because by the time I've read all the comments for the first secret, I can't remember any of the secrets that came later.

I skip the secrets (and comments) that I can't read. I'm looking at you, tiny-font secret makers. ;)

Read the secrets. If I have something to say about one of them (or if the secret is mine) I'll open another tab for that secret then go through my tabs commenting, then closing. If I thought I had something to say but nothing is coming to mind I'll close the tab and maybe come back later. If I'm particularly interested in a specific secret I'll leave the tab up, otherwise I'll close it out.

Then off to GC.

I usually:

1. read the secrets

2. read, comment, and respond to comments on secrets, using right click + new tab to view them again as necessary (sometimes I skip step 1 which would be more efficient but I'm impatient)

3. read/comment on the failbar

4. read/comment on GC

5. check my email/notifs

6. wait a while before checking it again

Re: Fandom Secrets Reading Patterns?

I read/browse the secrets and make a mental note of the numbers I'm interested in. I go to those threads that interest me and read the comments and maybe even comment. Once I'm done with those, I check out the general comments and read/comment as I'm going down the page.

Re: Fandom Secrets Reading Patterns?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
I open two tabs, one with the secret images and one to the comments. I go through the secrets and as I'm doing that scroll down through the comments to the threads for secrets I'm interested in. When I'm done with that I close the tab with the secret images in it and go to page 2 of the comments in the other tab.

I read in order, and skip whatever looks boring or completely irrelevant or potentially spoilering something I might want to check out later. As I read them, I mark off which ones I want to check the thread for (or comment in), and then I open every thread in a new tab.

If there's no comments, like if I'm here early, I just check back later or dick around in the GC. GC is always and must always be last for me though. It don't feel right any other way :U
