He settled for looking earnestly at him, and Simon wondered how he could have been fooled by the Phantom's impersonation. Even in his beat-up state, Fulbright was more full of life and sincerity than the Phantom had ever been. 'Aren't - aren't you in your shackles?'

Simon stared at him. There was so much he had missed and Simon felt as if he could never really fully catch up on the things that had happened in the past year. 'No, my innocence in the case seven years ago was proven just several hours ago. I've been freed from my chains.'"

Oh my, really? I usually post my stuff on my ao3. I think this snippet may be a bit misleading as to the actual nature of the fic though. It's supposed to be some fluff where Simon and Bobby go house shopping because Bobby's apartment is too full of bad memories of the Phantom for him to stay there. The darker and more pensive tone just kind of ran away from me...

You can always let it run. There's a lot of potential in the idea of Fulbright surviving, particularly if he has some scrap of information the Phantom tried to hide. (And of course there's a lot of potential in the general idea of Fulbright and Blackquill interacting.)

Yep, that's right. I actually have a couple of different ideas I've been tossing around of Blackquill and the real Fulbright interacting post GS5. I do so love those two. And it's my way of recovering after the emotional trauma that was 5-5! I loved Fulbright so much and the ending was not kind to me.
