Can't stop reading

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I am reading a fic right now that is so bad, but so heartfelt that I just can't bring myself to quit. I don't know what it is. I thought of leaving some feedback, but I don't know exactly what would be constructive. The author hasn't specifically asked for any concrit anyway, and it seems like no one leaves it unsolicited these days...

I like poking fun at badfic as much as anyone but, yeah, I feel the same way as you sometimes, usually when the author is especially young. A while ago I found this silly and very long one direction fic (with a very obvious mary sue character) that I couldn't help but be fond of because the author was only 13 or 14 and just seemed so happy to be writing. She reminded me a lot of myself back in my marysue days so I left her a couple of nice comments saying that I thought her story was very creative (technically true!) and gave a few small suggestions for the fic which she responded very kindly to. It's always nice to see young people who are so enthusiastic about writing even if they're writing something that they'll later look back on and cringe a bit (I know I did. Oh God, did I ever). We all start out somewhere after all.

But the people in their late twenties and thirties who write horrible abominations of fanfiction? Even if it's still douchey, I feel a lot less guilty about laughing at their fic

That's pretty rude.

na

It is, but almost everyone here bitches about terrible fic or dumb people in fandom so I'm not sure how it's anymore rude than most of the things that go on here. Embrace your bitchiness; let it flourish

If I didn't think it would get my car vandalized, I'd print this on a bumper sticker.
