Did I use the word "stealing"? I think not.

There's a reason they say to steal from your betters, not your peers.

Remember saying that?

Also, you used "annexing," which conveys much the same idea of taking possession.

Regarding stealing:

How to Write Forum --> http://fictionaut.com/forums/general/threads/219

Sharing a Fanfic Universe (Gargoyles website) --> http://www.gargoyles-fans.org/grimorum/chapter2.htm

Regarding annexation - the definition from Google:

1.) append or add as an extra or subordinate part, especially to a document.

2.) add (territory) to one's own territory by appropriation.

3.) take for oneself; appropriate.

4.) add or attach as a condition or consequence.

...the word "steal" doesn't really convey the full scope of the word. Nor does it do justice to the entirety of the concept.

This really looks like hairsplitting to me. "Steal" needn't "convey the full scope" of "annex" to convey a similar sense, especially in the context of a comment where you have essentially used "stealing" to describe what the OP proposes to do.

Also, if "never steal from your peers" is some sort of universal fandom law, why is it that when I google "fandom law never steal from your peers," the only actual source for the quote is the same one you linked?

Three points:

1.) "The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and the lightning bug." - Mark Twain

2.) While I'm not the keeper of your google-fu, I suspect we got different search results because we used different search terms.

3.) This might've been fun earlier in the evening, but it's not now. OP had a question, I weighed in, and now I'm done.
