Anon The Ghostbusters cartoon (eventually retitled The Real Ghostbusters) was based on the live action tv series The Ghostbusters (1975) not the movie.

This is an animated remake of the live-action series, "The Ghost Busters" (1975), and is in no way related to the more well-known film "Ghostbusters" (1984).

Jake and Eddie Jr. were the sons of the guys in the LA version.

There was a Ghostbusters cartoon based on the Bill Murray movie. The characters all had the same names, they worked out of a firehouse, and the logo was the same. I think it's the space between ("Ghost Busters" or "Ghostbusters") that makes the difference, but those are two different cartoons based on two different properties.
