The back half of season 5 has been fantastic, but I totally get where you're coming from. Some of the storylines have been hitting close to home for me too, and it makes it worse when the fandom reacts super negatively to stuff that I've been through personally.

Well...that seems like a pretty valid reason to stop watching a show.

I agree, and I wonder if it's a secret because there would be people who would judge anon for it? I get the vague impression that some of Glee's arcs and setups are really over-dramatic, but I've watched very little of the show. IDK.

Probably because some radical SJW would get on anon and say "no, you're supposed to hate it because of *Insert any politically incorrect problem with Glee here*.

Not here. Maybe tumblr.

The more I think about it, the more I realize a lot of what's submitted here is secrets people are keeping from tumblr, since that's where the fanbase is, but there's no way to set up a community there.

I understand, anon. I've never seen Glee, but I'm like that about a lot of music, movies, and some TV. I wish I could detach myself a little more, but it's hard.

Some trigger warning here for those who care and spoilers blah blah...

You know, don't feel bad...sometimes you just connect to certain things.

I generally watch Glee because I think it's funny and the songs make me happy, but there were scenes that got to me. As someone who attempted suicide as a teen, Karofsky's suicide attempt really hit home for me. Especially, because looking back I'm so damn grateful my parents didn't have to live through having their kid dying - and that scene just felt too damn real to me, you know.

I felt like that scene was really powerful, but I only seemed to see and hear negative things about it.

Well, because to be fair, they didn't really do everything right with the character. But that scene in particular: I also found it very powerful and very genuine emotionally.

Yeah, maybe some of the reactions were to the character arc as a whole. That would reassure me.

Although I can understand not wanting to share this (since the reasons behind it are undoubtedly personal), you have nothing to be ashamed of. That's a perfectly valid reason. (I haven't watched Glee in a couple seasons, but it did occasionally handle pretty serious topics. Once in a while it even did them well.)

I feel sad that you have to tell people things. They should accept the real reason why you can not watch anymore.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
I get it. Reasons don't have to be perfect to other people.

I stopped watching when Will kissed Biest and it was treated like this nice wonderful thing he did for her when all it did was make him feel better about her situation. She was still, in terms of the story, an unattractive woman who would never be worthy of more than whatever tiny portion of affection other people could spare out of pity. It was just cruel.
