Re: So have you heard about...
I usually don't play more than two or three battles every day on my game file, though. I always get really into it and then feel drained afterwards. I'm usually more relaxed on PS! because, I think, I haven't invested as much time and effort into my team as on my game file. People who have all OU Pokemon really annoy me though. It's a stupid pet peeve, but if someone has Gengar, Mawile, Talonflame, Aegislash, Dragonite, and Vaporeon on their team, I just roll my eyes. Have some originality, people!
I rarely see Malamar but if you can get a Superpower in, I think he'll be fine. Of course, that is the problem. With average Defenses and Speed, you have to be careful with setting it up. I would definitely recommend Bisharp with Knock Off though. Bisharp became such a great Pokemon this gen. From his nature, I'm guessing your Sylveon also has an offensive moveset? I think using Sylveon offensively is a bit unconventional, but hey, 110 base Special Attack is not anything anyone is gonna sneeze at. Lapras is okay, I suppose. Did she get a buff this gen? I've been seeing her more often lately. And it's okay, I love talking about the metagame, so we're doing pretty good :3
Re: So have you heard about...
PS! might be fun to try, honestly. I wouldn't mind seeing how my in-game team works out, actually, it could be kind of fun to see how they would stand up to your standard OU set.
Hang on, let me get my team.
- Delphox, male, Modest nature, Blaze. Knows Calm Mind, Flamethrower, Will-O-Wisp, Psychic. Very good IVs in defense, apparently 0 in sp.def, oops.
- Sylveon, female, Modest nature, Cute Charm. Knows Draining Kiss, Moonblast, Shadow Ball, Calm Mind. Unfortunately, has best IVs in Attack.
- Roserade, male, Mild nature, Natural Cure. Knows Giga Drain, Shadow Ball, Sludge Bomb, Stun Spore. Perfect IVs in HP, Def, and Speed.
- Lucario, male, Hasty nature, Steadfast. Knows Aura Sphere, Dark Pulse, Earthquake, Flash Cannon. Perfect IVs in speed.
- Malamar, female, Hasty nature, Contrary. Knows Night Slash, Hypnosis, Psycho Cut, Superpower. Perfect IVs in HP.
- Lapras, male, Docile nature, Water Absorb. Knows Rain Dance, Surf, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt. Perfect IVs in HP.
Not sure Lapras did get a buff, but I got the in-game one and he ended up being completely amazing - my whole team has full affection on Amie, and during the E4, he got knocked down to the reds - but managed to avoid three hits in a row while also getting three consecutive Amie-boosted crits. Lapras kind of HAD to become a favourite after that! Roserade was the other previous-gen one I had never used before, and he was amazing. As a Roselia, he OHKOed a Houndour with Giga Drain, OHKOed everything in the Rock gym that didn't have Sturdy, OHKOed Lysandre's Mega-evolved Gyarados, and, ultimately, OHKOed the champion's Mega-evolved ace. (He was sliiiightly overlevelled by the end, but only by about two levels.) And offensive Sylveon is fun! I've got some probably-surprising KOs with her Shadow Ball, heh.
Might not be the best natures, but whatever - this is my in-game team, no breeding or soft-resetting or anything (seriously lucked out with my Sylveon, the second Eevee I came across was not just Modest, but female). I tend to go for flat-out offensive, honestly - there's some status things in there, but I find I tend not to use them as much, so actually working with status moves is something I'd like to get more familiar with.
I also have a team in Y from my Nuzlocke run (Chesnaught, Meowstic, Aromatisse - who was unexpectedly fantastic in-game, Drifblim, Dragalge, and, well, Vaporeon), wouldn't mind trying something with them too.
Re: So have you heard about...
We should have a battle someday! I'm more of a stall team myself. You know, high defenses and gradually wearing the opponent down? I once was in a 3v3 battle and only had my Vaporeon against their mostly-full-health team, and Vaporeon managed to take them all down by the sheer power of Poisoning and recovering from damage. They had a goddamn Dragonite and couldn't substantially damage my Vaporeon! I hatched a shiny Eevee just because I was so proud of him. Toxic-stalling has kind of become my specialty since, but my real specialty is Rotation Battles. I discovered a surprising talent for Rotation Battles recently, it's such a shame they're not more popular. They require just as much strategy as a Triple Battle. I dream of the day the VGC will take Rotation Battle format.
Oh your Y file has a pretty fair team too. I used Dragalge as a mixed wall and she was amazing! And of course, I would slap Vaporeon onto any team, he is my prince and crown jewel.
My in-game team was actually pretty okay, I had Lucario, Charizard, Greninja, Sigilyph, Dedenne, and Sandslash. I first got into competitive battling because I was sick of being mowed over on the Battle Spot. Now it is my favourite pastime. I still can't get past the last three trainers at the Battle Maison, though. Those damn NPCs cheat! Using OHKO moves and legendaries - I have no idea how to get past them! It's like I need five different teams just to do it!
Re: So have you heard about...
Honestly, I'm not sure what I'd do against a Poison stall team! I'm short on recovery moves, aside from Draining Kiss and Giga Drain, wouldn't really know how to counter it aside from 'try to knock out opponent as fast as possible'... That's very cool, though :) Vaporeon is amazing, I hadn't used one before Y but damn, he was good.
My Dragalge was pretty cool :) And yeah, as mentioned, Vaporeon was just fantastic. Ended up being pretty similar to Lapras in the sense that he managed to shake off a LOT of hits and get a lot of crits. Oh, that rhymes. This is the Y team, 'scuse the different format:
- Amaranth the Aromatisse | level 73 | Healer | Gentle | Capable of taking hits | Draining Kiss, Moonblast, Attract, Calm Mind
- Lucky the Vaporeon | level 73 | Water Absorb | Mild | Likes to relax | Surf, Waterfall, Ice Beam, Strength
- Kale the Chesnaught | level 72 | Overgrow | Relaxed | Impetuous and silly | Brick Break, Spiky Shield, Seed Bomb, Earthquake
- Balsamic the Meowstic | level 72 | Keen Eye | Naughty | Likes to fight | Signal Beam, Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Psychic
- Holly the Dragalge | level 72 | Poison Point | Naughty | Likes to relax | Thunderbolt, Dragon Pulse, Sludge Bomb, Scald
- Annie the Drifblim | level 71 | Aftermath | Bold | Good perserverance | Shadow Ball, Phantom Force, Fly, Payback
(Lucky got his name because DO YOU KNOW HOW HAPPY I WAS THAT THE FIRST ROUTE 10 ENCOUNTER WAS AN EEVEE? It was amazing :D )
Ooh, okay! I love Sigilyph - used one in White, and then again in White 2, heh. Very cool typing and a decent moveset. And damn, Battle Maison can be brutal, from what I've heard. I've been contemplating trying the singles battles (I figure that with my Lucario, Delphox, and Lapras, I have pretty decent coverage?) and seeing how that goes.
Re: So have you heard about...
Oooh recovery moves don't help against Toxic because it takes away more and more HP with every move! The only way to stop one is to either use a status-healing move like Heal Bell or Aromatherapy, or use a Poison or Steel-type Pokemon because they're immune to Poison. ...Unless, of course, the opponent is using a Gliscor to Toxic-stall because Gliscor can take both out with Earthquake. Okay, don't let me run off on tangent about Toxic-stalling. I'm going to write an article about it someday but not in this comment box.
Heh your Dragalge's moveset is almost exactly the same as mine except I used Draco Meteor instead. Aromatisse is a sweet Pokemon, and with the right support, a very good cleric/healer! I used her once and she was a lot of fun. Nah man, don't bring your Lapras and Delphox. Don't bring coverage, bring a lot of offense and one recovery. Coverage means nothing when the opponent is using OHKO moves, or abusing evasion moves until it's practically impossible to hit. Your only solution is to take everything out with a lot of offense and a lot of speed. I'm thinking of using a Lucario myself, I am so fed up of getting hit in the face with OHKO moves -_-;
Re: So have you heard about...
Oh, right! Well, Lucario is part-Steel and Roserade is part-Poison... and wouldn't be a bad choice against a Gliscor, since Ground is only neutral. And sure, heh.
And damn, okay... To get around the evasion moves, something like Aura Sphere would work, wouldn't it? Unless it's a Ghost, at least. Hmm... I'd have to consider it.
