It depends on your audience. =] Preteens will eat up the cliche stuff like no one's business, but older people are much harder to please. Fans of a certain genre expect certain things from the books they read, so you need to give them something familiar-tasting if you want them to buy it. A novel being entertaining is really fundamental though--you want it no matter what, because if the story doesn't entertain the reader, the reader won't continue.

The only way you'll ever know if you story will be a hit or not is if you go for it, of course. ♥ Publishing and popularity takes a lot of luck, not just talent. Good luck with your novels~

I want to write something my Dad would read if he didn't know I wrote it.

Thank you. Maybe what I write won't be some multimillion dollar hit like Harry Potter or something, and right now, the story is a little dry. I don't have a whole lot of characters. ALl the material I have was somethings I wrote in high school. But maybe, just maybe, I can make it work.

Thank you. Maybe it won't be that popular, but they say small fandoms are always better then huge ones.
