There was a post going around tumblr about an 11-year-old girl at a con who supposedly was supposedly harassed by a brony. Somehow only two people in the entire convention noticed this happening, the person who wrote up the tumblr post, and one of the people at her table (the Sacanime booth).

Instead of contacting security, despite the fact that they supposedly had actual face to face interaction with this potential pedophile/creeper, and despite being really close to the security table, the person and her boss decided not to tell security, but instead to inform the parent* and talk about it on tumblr.

As a result, they were banned from future Babscon's unless they go through a training course about ACTUALLY PROTECTING KIDS FROM PEDOPHILES instead of just complaining about it on tumblr.

...I might be a little biased.

Later information revealed that it might be false, however, given that the OP was saying untrue information (sexualized fanart in the dealers hall, and the parent (*) coming forward, and saying that she was never told of the creeper.)

That's what I know about it.

*Later a letter was posted

(sorry for linking to myself, and my ranting; afaik the original poster left)

That's what pisses me off most about this, because the OP that started this seemed to care more about scoring points against their favorite target of derision than actually dealing with what could have been a very tragic situation. The entire original story reeked of this, the whole thing was describing how terrible some of the bronies were (and outright lying about circumstances I.E. reporting pornagraphy in the main hall, which was against the rules and nobody else at the con could corroborate the story) and the actual important point, the supposed attempt at abduction, is just fucking glossed over as another point against bronies, not the actual serious event it should have been treated as, like it was a bullet point equal to complaining about smelly fedora neckbeards and pony porn.

What actually happened is apparently still up in the air, either not like what was described, or exaggerated after the fact, the con staff responded appropriately by coming down on the booth for not reporting something like that, and trying to follow up to confirm the safety of the child, report to the parent, and try to find the potential abuser even when doubts arose, the con staff still took the situation seriously, which is good, as I've known some anime and sci-fi cons I've been to in the past have been bit in the ass by harassment issues that weren't properly followed up on.

I mentioned this a few days ago, but my first anime con way back in the early 2000's had a creeper hauled out in cuffs after getting caught trying to seduce a 14 year old in his hotel room. In that case, the people who witnessed it responded appropriately, and con security was quick to get the authorities involved, that's how it SHOULD happen, not ignoring it so you can include it as a fucking bullet point in a list to take out your grudge on a fandom, that's how a fucking child behaves, not an adult.

I hate getting so worked up about this, but I work for the Department of Child and Family Services for my state, and this shit is something we take deadly serious, even accusations by children are at least enough to get police involved and investigations started. The entire event accomplished nothing more than making the people irrationally angry at bronies look like a bunch of loons, and could potentially hurt accurate information and reporting if something like this happens in the future. I have been in various fandoms long enough to know that there are real creepers out there, and they need to be reported when they crop up, because I fucking guarantee that bronies, like all fandoms, are composed mostly of people that will not tolerate that shit going down at their cons, no, con staff aren't perfect, but any halfway competent con has a vested interest in keeping this stuff from happening, and will involve the law in events like this.

Yeah, I mean, apparently the mother wrote to the blog for that con (or somewhere), and said what really happened, and on one hand, I don't want to align myself with the "SacAnime was perfect and did no wrong it's all Babscon's and Bronies' fault" side who thinks it's a fake, but at the same time, I don't 100% believe it, you know? I want to, but.

Yeah, there are creepers everywhere there's a possibility of small children around, and it's awful that someone thought it would make a good "way to fame" situation. D:
