Was that not from a comedy skit? I don't know why everybody had to get their knickers all knotted up about it to that extent.

Is it? I was wondering. The dude has had his douchey moments but I've never seen him attack his fanbase.

SNL, IIRC.

(Here are some actual words so my entire post isn't abbreviations.)

That makes a lot more sense. Thanks.

(Ha, and thanks for the laugh.)

I went to a con a few years ago and someone asked him a Star Trek question. He told us "The show's been over for 30 years" and then spent the next half hour explaining how he has a problem with his ears and hears a constant white noise. Definitely why we paid to see him at a con, I'm sure.

Really? Interesting. I know he's been dickish in other ways though.

Yup. He's very different than other actors are at cons. He was a last minute addition to replace actors who couldn't show up at a Trek con I went to. All the other actors answered questions and were awesome. He spent the whole 45 minutes just talking about random stuff, almost none of it Trek (and the only Trek part was bashing the new movies) and never let anyone ask questions.

Basically, he's rather full of himself and kind of a dick, and you shouldn't expect most actors to act like him at cons.

Alternately-- the nicest, most genuine star I've met at a con is in your icon! John Rhys Davies was legitimately the best experience I've had meeting anyone ~*famous. My experience was a bit different as my best friend was volunteering as his PA for the Con for the weekend so I had a little more time with him, but yeah. So kind, interested in everyone, indulged every LoTR and Indiana Jones and Sliders question someone threw at him (while randomly quoting Shakespeare, naturally.) Just an A+ human all-round.

From what little I gathered from interviews and such, I could tell he was pretty awesome. And he's really talented too. I'm always sad that in spite of being in some high profile things he is mostly forced to take not great jobs. How is this man not getting all the offers?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, SNL. I remember watching that actually and laughing.

Yes, I've been a Trek fan since forever, and I found it funny. Some ppl took it WAY too seriously. (Maybe they should get out of their parents' basement more often.)
