Do you use it? How do I make friends on there? Find people to follow? Get followers? Any Instagram-specific etiquette I should be aware of?

Trial and error is a fine way to learn something relatively low risk like social networking sites. (It's not like you're learning sky-diving, after all.) Why not just ease yourself into it and see how it goes?

As for getting followers, I don't know what you're asking. Be interesting? Take nice pictures? Those are the obvious answers, which makes me think you're looking for some sekrit special technique for gaining followers in which case the answer is that you must gather the first dew after a new moon in spring, distill it with rose petals dried over a fire and then drink the tisane while dancing sky-clad in a birch grove at midnight.

I don't really 'get' Instagram and just use it to take random photos now and then. Easiest way to get followers is to just take pictures and tag them. Also folllow users who post similar content to you, comment on their pics, etc. Uh sorry I can't be of more help anon.

the people i follow on instagram are people i'm already friends with on other sites and celebrities

i use instagram as an extension of my current social network so i follow/am followed by people who i already know. i know friends who have a huge network of followers who are strangers though; i think posting consistently with decently framed pictures can net you random followers who use the explore option
