I wish more shows were cheesy campy dumb fun instead of dark, gritty, or introspective.

Hell, yeah!

I'm hopeful that the success of Frozen and Lego movies that maybe the creators will start to realize the grimdark period of entertainment is over. I want fun again. Lets see some bright primary colors on screen again, no more of this palette of grays and washed out blues.

Seriously! Or a nice in-between, at least. I love introspective stuff, but does it have to be introspective as the main characters bleed to death slowly?

Ditto. I usually can't enjoy stories that take themselves completely. Or at least there should be more of grey area between cheesy fun and brooding serious-ness.

As much as I love my dark gritty shows, yeah. I like variety and sometimes I just want to kick back and watch something fun and goofy.

Like BBC America's "Atlantis". Panned by a lot of the fedoras and neckbeards for not being dark'n'gritty and superserious, but fuckit. It never was aiming to be anything but a show you could kick back and watch three guys have semi-swashbuckling goofy adventures. 'Bout the only real criticism you can level at it, is that it overcomplicated Jason's origin story. Beyond that it is goofy guys having fun and goofy adventures for people that just want to kick back and relax a little.

I agree.

I wish a lot of those "dark and gritty" shows at least had a sense of humour, and didn't take themselves so seriously. It's possible to be "dark" and have some terrible things in it, without going completely overboard.

But I guess most writers can't get the balance right, or they think it's more "mature".

100%. I'm so fucking done with this po-faced super-serious shit. I blame Christopher Nolan and Call of Duty.

I'd like to add, not just done with super-serious grimness, but also sick of people saying they'd totes like shoot the Joker and Batman is a pussy for not doing it. I get it, they want to show how edgy they are that they can be a for real badass in comix land. Now can I just enjoy my story line of Batman dealing with an insane clown in a way that will let me enjoy the characters again in a few more months time. I didn't come to Batmanland to have some internet-badass preach how badass they ought to be in internetland.

Guys who say Batman ought to kill the Joker, go read Judge Dredd or The Punisher instead.

I just wish there was a show as great as Hercules: The Legendary Journeys or Xena: Warrior Princess on air atm. Now those were cheesy camp fun at its best.

Try "Atlantis" on BBC America.
