I don't need people to respect my religion. Disparage it all you want, I really couldn't care less.

I also don't think it's worse for an atheist to say what they believe as though it was fact than it is for a religious person to say what they believe as though it is fact. Seems like a clear double standard to me. But whenever I say that I get religious people assuming I'm an atheist and talking down to me.

Over the years I've come under the impression that most religious people tend to think that the word "belief" means something very different for people who are non-religious. There's a lot of emphasis placed on someone's religious belief, as if it's something one can strengthen intentionally or weaken intentionally, and there's a misconception that that sort of belief doesn't work exactly the same way for people who are atheist or agnostic (or whatever else).

tl;dr a whole lot of people confusing belief with faith up in here.
