The paragraph in the law I was talking about earlier:
Norwegian childrens law: changed in 1981 and reviewed in 1997

"Children shall not be exposed to violence or by any other means be treated in a way that can lead to physical or psychological trauma. This also applies when the violence is used as a tool in raising the child. Use of violence or threatening or troublesome behaviour or other endangering behaviour towards children shal not happen. "

So the law has been in effect for quite some time, it was probably strengthened some in 1997, but as the fact that our society for the last 30 odd years have by law made it illegal to hit children, there isn't a lot of opposition for it. The only opposing view you might hear is people who feel that a slap to a childs hand when they do something that could hurt them. Behind closed doors some might think it is okay to lightly slap a child if it does something really wrong, but it is not accepted by society at large.

That was a long way of saying: Yes, Norway at large is against violence towards children.

It is so sad that especially a modern society is for using violence to raise a child is an acceptable opinion to have.
