Maybe it's because I don't know this fandom, but I don't get how this is a secret.

LA Noire has a gameplay element where you interview suspects/witnesses/whatever and you have to watch their facial expressions to see if they're lying or whatever. Some characters are really, really bad at it (the guy who got this goofy grin when I missed a cue and he thought he might get away with it) and some characters will look you in the eye and lie to your face.

Thank you. The secret makes sense now. :)

OP here

Yup! The game's HYPER REALISTIC ADVANCED FACE MOTION TECHNOLOGY was/is easily their main selling point. (And it is really impressive, if you ignore some weird issues with the hair.)

I don't get it, either, but I love the enthusiasm! (And am also picturing the OP as a golden retriever.)

I love this comment.

I have a horrible memory!

This secret seems like it wants to be a haiku!

I am a poor student!

I'm not faceblind at all and I kind of suck at that game.

The only thing I can really say that I SUCK at is the driving, but as I understand it that's a universal constant.

Yeah, the car handling is very realistic for the period and that means you're lugging these giant metal monsters around with somewhat primitive brakes and whatnot.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-13 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Mmhmm. On the bright side, lugging around a giant metal monster does mean that driving off cliffs or into buildings results in just a jolt, smoke, and maybe the car going dead at worst.

(I know this because I ran into buildings a lot.)

It's at least better than the original Mafia. God, fuck the car handling in that game.

Actually, fuck that game in general. It's not the worst thing I ever played, but it's definitely one of the most disappointing.

Oh my god I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I bought it when it came out but have never got very far in because I fail so bad at the driving. My partner was just constantly yelling that I'm a maniac.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-13 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man you're so far from it. I've recommended it to three friends so far and all of them described their beginning as some variation of I CAN'T DRIVE ;_;.

It's actually pretty smooth once you get a handle on it and a feel for the 'weight' and momentum of the car. It's just tricky to get the hang of.

I'm so confused by everyone else in this thread. For me, the driving is really easy - I've never even thought twice about it, but I AM SO SO TERRIBLE at the interview parts!

I'm not faceblind, but I can't see how the facial expressions of the people in this are supposed to give away correct/incorrect answers at all. Their expressions practically seem random, and the game's all 'press (R) to observe them while you write in the notebook' or whatever it says, and you surreptitiously look up to see them DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. So I get 1 out of 4 questions correct and then... drive away like a boss.

Feels like I'm playing a different game to everybody else, now!

My only thought on the driving thing is that I play a fuckton of GTA, and I'm a decent driver in that. The cars in LA N are just like driving the crappier vehicles (and particularly the ones with bad turning circles) in, say, GTA IV era.

late to the party but this is my favorite secret I've ever seen - it's so punchy and fun and chipper idk it makes me smile
