For you tumblr-savvy people...a question about tagging.

I only use tumblr sporadically, and I'm not friends with the interface, really.

So I'm wondering though, do tags get deleted after a while? Or rather, no longer searchable. I ask because I had some of my fics tagged under my name (mostly for myself) and they used to be searchable under that tag, but now they no longer are (even though the tag is still on the original post?)

Also, I've heard people using tags to avoid spoilers, or tagging spoilers - but how does that work exactly? How would one avoid spoiler tags?

I'm a bit of a Luddite when it comes to tumblr.

For the spoiler tagging thing: there are browser extensions that allow you to 'blacklist' posts that have certain tags so they don't show up on your dashboard.

Not sure about your first question though.

The first 5 tags are trackable/searchable, the next 10? I think are trackable on your personal tumblr, after that they are flavor text. Check out xkit/tumblr savior for how to blacklist tags.

For example I have "sherlock" blacklisted and "elementary" whitelisted. So posts tagged or having the word sherlock are hidden, unless they also use the word elementary in which case they show up like normal.

1) They changed the way you search for things, so that might be it. Do you follow the tag? Or do you just type it in every time?

I noticed search is different.

It's basically just the tag "Kallanda Lee"- and I do follow it yes, but there's now nothing in the tag at all. I've noticed things in other tags disappearing as well after the search switch thing, it's sort of annoying.

Hrm. I do see that some are missing from that tag, but looking at your blog (and seeing what you have tagged), it only looks like you have 5 posts tagged "Kallanda Lee".

Right, well that still looks about right then. But they just used to show up on the tracked tags as well. Hm, at least I can still access them this way.

Aside from fandoms on their own for mass blocking, why don't you use "spoiler*" for any instance of that word preceding anything and plural?

Yep. Every instance of something preceded by spoiler, like 'spoilers' or 'spoiler alert' (which is already knocked out by spoiler) gets blocked.

If you are the only one that uses the tag (or you post a lot in it) then, for some reason, your posts become a bit unpredictable on if they show up on the site wide tag search, but it shouldn't affect your personal unless you somehow lost the tags through mass tag edit or something.

Like the previous anon said, the first five tags you input are the searchable ones. So if your name is the first you enter, you'll be good.

If you have more than five, and you start futzing around while you edit a post, I've had issues with it screwing the order of what I wanted to be searchable. If that's been fixed since, disregard that.
