Re: Does anyone bitch about their job more than servers?

It may be, but as someone who has waited tables, I will say they're pretty much right. It's just not that hard of a job. It pays all right, and generally speaking you can forget about it entirely when you leave work for the day. Nothing earth-shaking.

I had a similar experience but I've had the good fortune to generally work in an area that has mostly really nice people in it, and also to have a guaranteed minimum wage coverage if my tips don't add up.

As far as I know, that's the law in all 50 states.

The sad thing is, a lot of places ignore that law (just like a lot of places ignore the mandated-by-law breaks that their employees are entitled to), and employees are afraid to report their employers because they might lose their jobs and get no money.

That's kind of a bullshit excuse given that legal protections exist for whistleblowers for a reason.

Except in order to enforce that protection, the person who was unjustly fired has to take their case to the appropriate government agency or get a lawyer (who they have no money to pay) and wait for the legal process to do its work... and in the meantime they've been evicted from their home because they couldn't pay their rent. So yeah, not actually bullshit.

If so, that's good.

Agreed. I usually got tipped fairly well and I can't say I ever had any really awful customers.

I encountered much worse when I worked retail.
