I wouldn't mind if they used the player characters I just want them to be their own characters, developed in their own regions, and not just sidekicks to Ash who are developed only in relation to Ash and his adventure.

Oh yeah, I was talking about the PCs. But yeah - it'd solve the weird 'eternal ten-year-old!' thing Ash has going on, despite multiple years passing in the series (which wouldn't even mean that they're one-series wonders - can you imagine, say, twenty-seven-year-old Ash showing up in the XY series?), and we'd get multiple, well-developed characters... no real loss here, honestly!

I would loooove for them to do relative timelines the right way. Like I think GSC was set three (maybe two? idr which) years after RBGY.

It was three, yeah. RBGY and RSE actually take place around the same time, and then GSC and DPPt take place three years later. Then there's an unknown period of time between GSC/DPPt and BW (it's a much longer stretch of time, probably around ten, given that that Rocket from GSC is now living there and has a son who's the Schoolboy sprite, and they look around 8-10 years old). Then, two years after BW is B2W2 and XY, which also take place around the same time, apparently!

So yeah, XY is at LEAST five years after the Kanto games, and probably closer to fifteen.

It's actually been released by... don't recall who, one of the main Game Freak people. Didn't include the years (the three years part is mentioned... in GSC, I think, and the two years in BW2 - the ten or so years is my theorising), but it did say which games take place at the same time. Honestly, I had assumed that XY was a few years after BW2, not around the same time...

And yeah, seriously! Man, I would have loved to see Serena be the main protag for the XY series... wasted potential, seriously :( (I'm actually going to watch the next few weeks of the anime - I love Diantha and Lucario is one of my favourites, so I want to watch her introduction, and the Korrina-and-Lucario episodes. So I'll get to watch Ash being obnoxious all that time. Yay.)
